Jennifer & Gary

How did you first meet and get together?

We actually met in work. The crazy world that is pensions brought us together.

Tell me about the proposal?

Gary surprised me with a weekend in Killarney. He picked there because that’s where we went on our very first weekend away together so we have great memories there. We stayed in the Muckross Park Hotel which is fab and on the Friday just after we got there we went for a walk around one of the lakes. He checked to make sure no one was around first J and got down on one knee. Can’t remember the exact words……he did have to prompt me for my answer though as I just kept laughing and was just so happy but he got a yes in the end!

What was important to you about your wedding and what were your priorities from the very beginning?

Our main priority was just to have fun and enjoy the day and not to get stressed by things we didn’t have control over.

What are your most powerful memories of the ceremony?

Just when I was about to walk up the aisle, I could hear my song and the girls had started walking and I was just so overwhelmed with everything. Laura (maid of honour) told me everything would be ok and I felt a calm wash over me and the smile never left my face for the rest of the day. The feeling walking down the aisle was amazing. I felt like I was floating. Seeing Gary waiting for me and all our family and friends who had made the effort to be there for us…..it was just such a special moment.

What made you choose your reception venue?

Being from Galway there was never any doubt about where we would get married. And Salthill then was just the icing on the cake. We met the wedding coordinator of the Galway Bay Hotel and were just blown away by her and the hotel from the start. So professional and friendly, our minds were put at ease instantly. The hotel really was superb up to and on the day of the wedding. We literally didn’t have to worry about a thing and nothing was too much trouble for them.

What made the day really special and personal to you?

For my something old, borrowed and blue my mum give me a blue sapphire ring which was given to her by her aunt as a 21st birthday present. The ring was stunning and I remember Aunty Eileen well (she used to give us sweets when we called) so it felt very special.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day?

Just seeing all our friends and family there together in the one room. It felt so special that all the people there had made the effort to come and celebrate our wedding day with us. I didn’t realise how much it would mean to me until the day.

Who did your hair and make-up?

The very talented Collette Costello did my hair and Sara Duffy did my make up. I absolutely loved both. Felt like I looked like the best version of me on the day.

Who supplied your flowers and cake?

Flowers were by GoDutch and my cake was made by Emer in Goyas. I love baking so the cake was a big deal for me and Emer did an absolutely amazing job. I just wish I could have eaten more it!!! I went a bit different and got a salted caramel layer which was just divine.

Are there any other suppliers you’d like to mention?

Jules Bridal Jewellery in Blackrock. She made me a custom piece for my hair and I got my earrings there too. The place is brilliant. You can make an appointment and look at her range. And even better you can try on all the earrings as she has samples in her studio. I found it hard to pick earrings as you’re not allowed to try them on in the shops so this place was just amazing!

What advice would you give to brides and grooms planning their day?

Don’t stress about the little things. Everything comes together on the day and even when there is a small mishap you are literally the two happiest people on the planet so nothing will phase you. You’re just delighted to be there with everyone who care about.
