Nicola & Naoise

How did you first meet and get together?

We met in the Quays. Naoise was working there at the time and one of his colleagues introduced us. His exact words to me were ‘I know a nice lad for you Nicola’. He got it right anyway.

Tell me about the proposal?

Naoise proposed in our apartment that we were renting at the time. It was very romantic, I walked in the door to rose petals everywhere, champagne, chocolates and Naoise down on one knee. A couple of weeks later he brought me off to Amsterdam along with a surprise trip to Antwerp to choose my diamond and get a beautiful ring made.

What was important to you about your wedding and what were your priorities from the very beginning?

The church was greatly important to me as was my celebrant who is a family friend. The cathedral was important because I wanted the organ and the acoustics with the singers voices. I’ve a huge interest in music and knew exactly what I wanted.

Being a makeup artist myself, hair and makeup was important. So much so that my original date was a week before the wedding and I changed it for the wonderful Caroline Coyne to do my makeup and Natalie O Brien to do my hair. So glad I did, as the girls did a fantastic job.

What are your most powerful memories of the ceremony?

Oh there are so many to chose from. Our most powerful memory was seeing each other at the top of the aisle. The beautiful music on the organ at the start set the scene and it really was a powerful moment. My dad walking me up the aisle was very important to me also.

What made you choose your reception venue?

Karina is amazing. Her personality shines and she is incredible to deal with. Nothing is too big or small to ask and she sold the venue for us.

What made the day really special and personal to you?

Father Michael really personalised our ceremony as he knows us for years. He even remembers the first time he met Naoise in my parents house.

We had Liam Mc Carthy as a special guest when guests arrived.

Naoise and I adore sweets so we made a sweet table and trees filled with our favourite treats.

Our Irish dancers, organised by 2 of our lovely guests were outstanding.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day?

Our favourite part was the ceremony and also having time in the car together to take it all in and enjoy each other’s company alone after the ceremony. Is was all brilliant though!

Who did your hair and make-up?

Caroline Coyne (Makeup ) and Natalie O Brien (hair )

Who supplied your flowers and cake?

Flowers – Abbey Florist

Cake – Goya’s

Are there any other suppliers you’d like to mention?

Aisle Love You who decorated the cathedral so beautifully.

John murphy our videographer (Avalon ) he was brilliant and so funny.

What advice would you give to brides and grooms planning their day?

Don’t stress, we didn’t stress leading up to the wedding. The professionals are doing this every week so don’t panic. It’s their bread and butter. They know what they are doing.

Enjoy your day and keep smiling.
